The Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (BHCOE) is an organization within the autism field that is leading the creation and adoption of performance-based standards for providers of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. ABA is the gold standard of treatment for people with autism and related developmental disabilities.

There is widespread variability in how ABA services are provided to patients. This makes it difficult to determine care scenarios, duration, and outcomes, to train and supervise clinical staff, and to establish the value of services for payment and reimbursement both for parents and payors.

Predictive data and benchmarks for the rate of learning and improvement are important metrics in reducing patients’ care variability and accelerating the delivery of true value-driven care in the ABA field.

 

Independent standards protect the integrity of the profession and the patient by providing quality assurance, continuous improvement, and support for innovation.
